The paleontological library is a reference library for the staff of the house and has limited access to the public. Borrowing is not possible. Copying options are available. The library holdings are currently not yet accessible via electronic media. Only the inventory of monographs from 1980 is included in the Munich library network and must be researched accordingly.

Library Holdings

The library, which is jointly supported by the State Paleontological Collection and the University Department (Paleontology Section), has well over 120,000 works and is one of the most extensive in this field. In accordance with the previous research focus of the employees, the library is particularly well equipped in the fields of vertebrate paleontology, paleontology of invertebrates of the Mesozoic and Modern Era, micropaleontology and paleobotany. Since 1961, the library has received a large cross-section of the newly published palaeontological and geological literature as well as numerous works from neighboring scientific fields (e.g. zoology, botany, archeology, geophysics, mineralogy).
