We are interested in the causes of the emergence of species over the course of recent Earth history. Our focus is on those fish groups that today are characterized by a particularly high level of species diversity (killifish, gobies, cichlids).

As part of the Kenya project, we were able to recover very well-preserved cichlid fossils from the Miocene sediments of the Tugen Hills (Baringo County). A large part has already been described in publications and evaluated with regard to the evolutionary history of African cichlids; almost all of our articles are "open access" and therefore freely available.
